Felix Omondi is a reporter and podcaster at Until Everyone Is Free Podcast, a podcast that retells the forgotten history of Kenya through the life of Pio Gama Pinto – Kenya’s first political assassination.
He is also a sheng translator working on an anthology of stories in the Kenyan languages with Ituika Project where he translated Makena Onjerika’s Fanta Blackcurrant into sheng. The short story won 2018 Caine Prize for African Writing.
He is also a writer with poems published in the third issue of Down River Road Magazine and a short story scheduled to appear in their next edition in collaboration with Shift Collective in The Future Of Returns Project.
He is also a community journalist and documentary filmmaker with Tazama World Media and K-Youth media where he has worked on various documentary projects since 2019. In 2020, his short film Trees and How They Sway was a finalist in the Nairobi Mobile film Festival and in 2021 he was a finalist in the Alliance Franchise Mobile film festival with the Film StoneFace. He won the 2021 Machawood Film Festival Best Sci-Fi category with the film, Story of SUN,MOON, MAN and WOMAN which he co-wrote. Calling The Shots, a full length feature documentary which he co-wrote tells the story of four women trying to curve a way in the male dominated film making industry. The film premiered on 26th March 2022 and will be doing a Europe Tour in 2023.
Felix love for work with youths in his community has seen him serve as a facilitator with PaaMoja Initiative for the past 5yrs. He has facilitated in their various programs including RUKA 2019, Sekete and Adole chat. He has also served as a member of the Advisory Board of Vizazi Foundation and a Board Member of Ready Aiders Foundation. Both organizations work towards supporting youths in the Mathare community.
He is a graduate from the University of Nairobi with a BSc degree in Food Science and Technology. A graduate from the University of British Colombia Sauder School of Business with a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship. Also a graduate of the African Digital Media Institute (ADMI) with a certificate in Digital Media Creation. He is a recipient of the 2021 Ituika writers fellowship program.
