Omar Hamisi
Facilitator
Omar Hamisi has spent the past 15 years in Mathare Slums passing through all that Mathare is known for. He has consistently participated in many volunteer works and other initiatives that seek to change the lives of the young generation.
Since aged 12 to the time he turned 18 years, Omar was a facilitator with various children right organizations like Childline Kenya and Girl Child Kenya.
A lover of nature, Omar was the chairman of the environmental clubs - both in primary and high school. Amongst his achievements include having planted numerous trees with students in schools. He also used to do community service in his neighbourhood every school holiday. He would help to organize clean ups in bid to improve the sanitation of the slum. He was also a member of the scouting, drama and journalism clubs, holding various posts in the different clubs.
He joined PaaMoja Initiative soon after completing high school so that he can help in bringing change to Mathare by teaching the upcoming generation about issues that affect them in their day to day endeavours.
Omar has also volunteered as an untrained teacher at MCEDO School where he taught Physics and Geography.
He recently joined Nairobi University and has worked as an intern at Storymoja Africa, a publishing house that also organizes the well known Storymoja Festival.
He loves playing football, watching movies, going to picnics and his biggest addiction is music.
